"This guy, he only wants Hannah because she killed his son. He doesn't care about us. If we instigate, he's going to be out for all of us. Do you get it? All these kids here, these families, they'll be demolished because you want to go on some suicide mission for your girlfriend!"
—Abe to Cole regarding Hannah's kidnapping.[src]

Lt Col. Abram "Abe" Welsh was a character in Dead Frontier.

A natural born leader, Abe joined the Air Force right out of high school. He easily ascended the ranks during his time enlisted. He also met fellow airman Amy Keesler while enlisted; they married and had two kids: Devon and Peter Welsh.

Abe and his family lived in a wealthy Chicago suburb. Besides a rocky and tense relationship with his rebellious daughter, Abe lived a life anyone would want.

As a high ranking military officer, Abe, along with the members of his battalion, created a base at O'Hare International Airport, with the main goal being to attract as many people there as possible. When more and more details emerged about the severity of the outbreak, many members of Abe's battalion fled or committed suicide, leaving only Abe, his family, and a few airmen left to defend the base. Abe came up with the idea of starting a radio broadcast that he'd loop 24/7; this was slightly successful, for a small amount of people made their way to the airport after hearing the broadcasts. However, the abundance of infected in the city during the early days made the trip to the airport difficult.

When the radio broadcasts were not working as Abe would have hoped, he and his battalion went on several trips into the outlying suburbs to bring in anyone they could. The majority of the residents at the airport got there through this method.

After a few weeks and little success with the radio broadcasts, Abe is surprised to find the survivors of the Super 8 motel helpless on the airport parking lot. He happily feeds them and takes them in.
