This is Issue 38 of The Sewers.
- "And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom." - Anais Nin
"Look!" The teenage scavenger whispered. Andy, Liam and Cole looked and saw what he meant. From the hill, on which they were standing, they could see a huge supermarket lighted up, in a town not far from their current location.
"That place could be a goldmine." Cole says, and inserts a homemade arrow in his crossbow. The group had been forced to make their own weapons in the five months.
"It could be overrun." Andy says, and continues to swing the axe back and forth on an old oak tree.
Cole approaches Andy. "Man, it could have everything we need." He says hopefull.
Andy stops swinging the axe and looks at Liam and Bill. Liam is cutting another tree, pretending to don't care, while Bill is keeping guard. Bill nods.
With a sigh, Andy says: "Allright then. First thing tomorrow."
In the sewer, at the base cars, now used as a bridge to the supply stash and armory, were Nia and Lisa sitting, sewing clothes for the winter.
"Lisa!" Hunter says in a, half mad, half happy, tone. "Why didn't you tell me?"
Hansi right behind Hunter has an apologizing look in his eyes.
"I-I'm sorry." Lisa says, Ethan now standing on the free sidewalk.
"What happened?" Ethan asks confused and looks at Nia. Nia looks away, as though she knows.
"She's pregnant." Hunter says. "My wife is pregnant."
Happy, Ethan looks at Lisa and says: "That's amazing. Congratulations."
Lisa smiles, but looks down. "Thank you, Ethan."
"Congratulations? No, Ethan. It's not good. We can't have a baby in this world. Not... Not in this world." Hunter says. Wayne and Alan, the survivors from the military base, now listening as well. Ringo approaches as well.
"Hunter." Ethan walks towards the leader. "It's gonna be just fine. We can do this."
Hunter takes a deep breath and says: "Okay... Yea." He smiles. "Yea." He walks over to Lisa and hugs her. "We're gonna have a baby."
At the dam, that the construction crew are building, Bernie, Nique and Neil is having a break.
"We need more bricks." Neil murmurs.
"We can take a short run to the construction site?" Bernie suggests.
Neil shakes his head. "Not us. The supply team."
Bernie nods and begins to eat his sandwich.
